Why I haven't been involved with any "Top 100 Cosplayers" galleries

Been getting a few inquiries about the cosplay gallery published online over at Citypages.com. Most of them are asking why I didn't do something similar with Vita.mn, where I am frequently known to write things about stuff that goes on. There are a few answers to that:

1. A cosplay gallery hadn't occurred to me.

2. Vita.mn didn't suggest it.

3. I'm not entirely sure I'd want to do something like this, because...

3a. I'm usually very busy getting drunk running back and forth between tightly-scheduled engagements at conventions, and I wouldn't have time to pose and photograph people in costumes all weekend.

3b. I'm probably not the city's best photographer. I mean, if everyone else with a camera in town suddenly got sick on the same weekend, I'd do in a pinch, but otherwise I tend to be better at writing things.

3c. It's a bit of an outsider's perspective, and it has to be, because the bulk of the Citypages' target readership are outsiders. As in people who are not cosplayers. As in people you will never see at a con. I probably wouldn't know the first thing about which costumes are likely to attract those readers. I'd probably get it all wrong. Probably spend all day taking pictures of Fem!Doctors, to be honest...

3d. As it's a bit of an outsider's perspective, it has that ever-so-slight hint of a freak show that often comes hand-in-hand with outsider attention, and I don't want to put my friends and fans on display under those circumstances.

4. The year isn't over yet. It's possible that Vita.mn will want to do something similar yet suitably distinct before the year is out. And, if they do, it's possible they'll involve me. If that happens, you'll know about it.
